What a sweet book. It’s about Ruth, who seems to have a pretty perfect life, until her husband is laid off, her 16-year old daughter loses the ability to relate to her, and her father breaks both his arms and has to move in, when her mother (note that Ruth’s parents have been long divorced) already lives with Ruth’s family.
So, what to do in this situation? Bake cakes. Lots of delicious sounding cakes (which the author kindly included recipes for in an appendix). And with her cakes, Ruth finds a way to solve all her family’s problems. It’s a lovely little feel good story for this depressing little month of February.
