I love weekdays off. It’s so much easier to go somewhere with a small parking lot on a Friday afternoon at 2, when everyone else is still at work. Yes, after my aborted trip last weekend, I finally made it to Mackworth Island, which is a small island off the coast of Falmouth, connected to the mainland by a causeway. It was given to the state by one of our former governors, and currently is the home of the state school for the deaf, as well a great ring trail around the island. It’s one of my favorite places to take in our rocky shore near home. I mean, is there any better smell in the world than the combination of forest and sea air? It’s pretty much perfect.
In addition to the lovely scenery, one of the other very cool things about Mackworth is that they’ve set aside an area where kids can create fairy houses. It’s very cool to look at the creativity some of the kids put into these structures.
And, in a further sign that they really know what they’re doing, they’ve installed bench-swings in a couple placed where there are lovely views of the bay. You really can’t get much closer to heaven.
