Most of my weekend adventures are close to home in Maine. Once the snow’s gone, we try to get out as much as possible. I have family Downeast, so I’m able to do longer trips up there, on occasion. (Someday, when I win the lottery and have all the time in the world, it’ll be more often.)
We also have friends and family throughout New England, so I’ll also feature posts from our trips further afield. (Northeastern Mass to Boston can be a day trip, but any further afield is probably going to be overnight.) Upstate New York is just over the border from my parents in law, and we can easily drive to two Canadian provinces, so I’ll include those in here as well.

- April in MaineThis is what I woke up to yesterday. It’s gone now, because snow doesn’t last in April, but this is what I’ve been dealing with for the last several weekends. I’m entering the home stretch of reformatting all my old blog posts, and in a depressing coincidence, I did March and April of 2022 yesterday.… Read more: April in Maine
- Kettle Cove State Park – Cape Elizabeth, METhe snow pack is rapidly decreasing. We were hoping for a walk at Two Lights yesterday – I would put money on the main path there being clear, but their front entrance is blocked. It looks like they’re redoing the entrance road (the entry kiosk is completely gone at the moment). Better now than later,… Read more: Kettle Cove State Park – Cape Elizabeth, ME
- Crescent Beach State Park – Cape Elizabeth, MELovely beach day today, though not the best for taking pictures. It was about 22 degrees, with a breeze – I’m not very interested in learning what the real feel was.

- Two Lights State Park – Cape Elizabeth, MEHad a lovely walk at Two Lights on Sunday. It’s the kind of weather where as long as you’re in the sun, it’s glorious. The reason we were out there was to stop at Kettle Cove on the way out and snag some seaweed for the garden.
- Aurora BorealisChecked off a bucket list item this week. It’s been a very active solar flare year, and there was a flare on Thursday that managed to cut through the light pollution so that we could actually see the aurora from our back deck. (These shots both use the nighttime feature on my pixel’s camera, but… Read more: Aurora Borealis

- Wall Power! – Clark Institute, Williamstown, MAWe were in VT last weekend, visiting my in laws. They live Bennington, which is in the corner of the state that borders Massachusetts and New York. The town right over the border in MA is Williamstown, home of Williams College. It also happens to have one of my favorite coffee shops (Tunnel City), so… Read more: Wall Power! – Clark Institute, Williamstown, MA

- Basin Park – Chatham, NHSaturday was a glorious day, other than the insane wind. (I was bracing myself to take this picture.) The sky was perfectly blue, and there was lovely foliage along the road. Just a great fall day.

- Red Tail Ridge Winery – Penn Yan, NYWe were supposed to be in Scotland this week. But, 2024 is apparently the year we weren’t meant to leave the US. Our two previous trips to Canada were scuttled by different events, and Scotland was scuttled by a family emergency over here for the person we were supposed to be visiting. So, we decided… Read more: Red Tail Ridge Winery – Penn Yan, NY
