This is a charming little book. Imelda’s one of the twelve dancing princesses, and falls in love with Ambrose at her sister’s wedding. Unfortunately, she falls sick at their wedding, and a fairy godmother offers Ambrose the chance to save her, but they’ll have to lose their love for each other.
So we end up with a queen and a king that are married, but strangers, which ends up losing them their kingdom. Naturally, the fairy godmother steps in to save things (they took their initial instructions a little too seriously), and they do live happily ever after. It is nice that they have to work for it a bit, so it’s definitely a modern tale.
