Weekly Wildflowers – Bijhouwer Forest Preserve, Phippsburg, ME

This preserve was an interesting find. It’s got one of the northernmost stands of mountain laurel in New England, which was the main reason we decided to stop by. But the geological features are just as interesting. There are a fair number of glacial erratics, but the coolest feature is the Hundred Foot Rock, which is actually a basalt intrusion into the local bedrock. The scale is impressive.
