Not going to lie, this visit was a little disappointing. Since the last time we visited Popham Beach, the area has come out the worse for the wear from a number of coastal storms. The current in the area has altered, which actually caused a quick sand incident last year. (To the great bemusement of those of us in Gen X who grew up under the impression that we would be encountering quicksand a lot more often than we actually do.) It also battered the dunes. So my easy access to beach heather is gone. (The pictures above are courtesy of the back corner of the parking lot, of all places.)
You could also walk out to Fox Island at low tide completely dry, which was not the case today. The channels seem to have altered enough that you have to get wet, which I was not prepared for. So I was disappointed not to be able to wander around there. Still, it was a lovely beach day, and we did see plenty of plants.
