Verity’s family split off from a secret society that had sworn to kill all Cryptids a few generations ago – they realized a lot of the Cryptids are worth protecting. So they have an interesting reputation in the communities that know that all these strange beings exist.
Very is currently living in NYC, moonlighting as a cocktail waitress (at a Boogeyman’s club), but really proving that she’s grown up enough to go out on her own. When young lady Cryptids (of various species) start to disappear, it’s clear something sinister is going on, and Very will need to figure it out.
This book was fun – Verity’s a wise-cracking hoot, and I really like the various spins on the creatures that the author has come up with. This was a good set up to this world, and I’m interested to see where the various characters go from here.
