It’s definitely been slow this year. This is the weekend I usually take an extra day off for to make sure I can visit as many woodland wildflower sites as possible, and today’s choices closer to home were not as far along as they could have been. This sanctuary is on the ocean in the midcoast, which is generally the most impacted area by sea breezes, so I think this place has just been too cool this year.
The mosses, lichens and mushrooms are loving it, though. We had a decent amount of rain over the past couple of days, and you could tell walking around today. This place in particular is a lichen fan’s dream.
