Silver Birch, Blood Moon – ed. Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling

I just grabbed an Ellen Datlow Humble Bundle that included the series of fairy tale anthologies she edited. I’d read some in the past, so absolutely had to jump on that deal.

In an anthology like this, I usually find one story that is not at all to my taste, but I enjoyed every single one in here. (I did skip the Neil Gaiman. This book was published back in the 1990s, so predates his recent history, but I just couldn’t bring myself to read his entry, which is a shame. I used to look forward to those.)

I really enjoyed the Robin McKinley story – it’s a very loose twist on Rumpelstiltskin that was great. With these being fairy tales, everything aged well – I was a little surprised to see how long ago it had been published. Definitely glad I grabbed that Humble Bundle.
