This is a lovely little book – a great overview of the fern family. The hard cover copy I received is just a beautiful book – the cover and end sheets are well designed. The illustrations are also lovely.
There are some lovely little vignettes of the author’s trips to view ferns in various habitats, leading to an overview of their history, which goes back before the dinosaurs. It touches on a number of unique characteristics of this group, like their very reproductive cycle, but you will need to go elsewhere for more detail. There are also several portraits of common ferns at the back of the book. Overall, a well done overview.
