Mika is a witch, which is this story, means she was orphaned, like all witches. She was raised by Primrose, the head of the witches in England. They’re not really supposed to congregate together, so Mika was raised by a series of nannies, and now that she’s an adult, she sees the other witches once

What a lovely story. Marra is the youngest of three princesses. Her oldest sister is her favorite, but Damia is married off to the prince of the neighboring kingdom, and tragically dies. Kania, the second sister, takes Damia’s place. Marra and Kania had never gotten along very well, but when Marra goes with their mother

This was Sunday’s walk. I’d been meaning to go there for a while, because they have gentians this time of year, so when my mother mentioned that our local salvage store (just a bit up the road near the mall) had scored a haul from a rather nice yarn store, this pinged my memory bank

The garden’s getting into high season. It’s probably not as good as it could be – we’re still getting a lot of rain. But the peppers are no longer sulking, and I only seem to have early blight on my tomatoes (knock on wood), which is easier to deal with than late blight.

Not a bad free book. This is the set up to a series set in more modern days, but leaning on Greek mythology for the characters. The author does take certain liberties with the parentage of her characters, but she talks about why at the end of this book, and I like where she’s going

This book finally goes into the details of the origins of Valdemar. We’ve known it was founded by a nobleman from the far away Empire, and he summons the Companions after a prayer to all the gods he’s ever heard of – now we get the full story. Kordas, Duke of Valdemar, has worked very

This walk will probably go down as my favorite walk of the year – it’s got a unique coastal plain pond, so I was just swimming in flowers I’d never seen before. We did joke at the end of the walk that it needs to be renamed to the Ashumet Green Briar Sanctuary – I
