Ah, Maine…
What a difference a day makes…
We’re finally set to have some sort of wintery precipitation tomorrow, and it’s gotten a little colder. Seemed as good a reason as any to finally put the garden away. So, this morning, things went from the above… to the below. Feels like a crazy end of an era. Things
So this is still my garden, as of last Sunday. I had intended to put it to bed, but it was still so green! I did put the mint away – it was looking pretty scraggly. But the sorrel, chard, thyme, and parsley still look great. Heck, I still have
I’ve been a little under the weather since last Friday (hence the dearth of posts that I’m now trying to slam in over this weekend). But the above was Monday night’s Swiss chard harvest. That’s right, Monday, November 23rd. Because it’s been a really warm Fall. Warm enough, that
The weather is just wacky. It’s so freaking warm. I mean look at the Swiss chard! Because it can survive a frost or two, it’s doing beautifully. So it’s made putting the garden to bed this year problematic. Some things are done – I pulled out the clematis yesterday, so that

I have to say, I’m really impressed by the blood sorrel this year. Last year, I started them right in the pot I intended to keep them in for the summer, and they didn’t really do anything – never got past the point of the first leaves. (Which are rounder and
Aren’t those just the cutest mutant carrots ever? And I have beets! (And really, beet greens!) I harvested both of these containers because they were really getting in the way of me getting to the tomato pots. Plus, since I’m not the kind of person willing to start my carrot bed
So remember how I snapped off about half of one of my tomato plants while I was getting the cages on, and really wasn’t sure if it would pull though? Well, it’s now the heartier of the two plants, both of which had to go to tier two of the tomato cages today.
