Fall Flowers
Flowers from my travels over the weekend.
I’m on vacation for the next seven business days (a week and extra – woo!), and the first three, I’m on my own. So I started the fun with my annualish by my self trip shopping to Kittery (score of the day: a cashmere short-sleeved sweater, original price $119, marked down and discounted to $29

Last weekend’s trip was up to the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden. We’ve been a bit remiss this year, and it was our first trip up. The main thing I noticed is that this is a good year for astilbe. I’ve noticed this at a couple of houses in my neighborhood, but they looked even nicer

The peonies are blooming at Gilsland Farm. Actually, they’re a little behind most of the peonies in they city, which are starting to go by. Being the woods next to the ocean definitely has some advantages in keeping back bloom times.

Our second stop on Saturday was the Thuya Garden, which is run by the same land preserve as the Azalea Garden. Unlike the Azalea Garden, it\’s still early in the season, so while there were some blooms, it was obvious that the best is yet to come. (Click the collage for a more detailed album.)

We’re back from a lovely weekend in Downeast Maine. We lucked out on Saturday, at least, with the weather, so were able to tool around Mount Desert Island. The highlight of that trip was the Asticou Azalea Garden, which is at the corner of Routes 198 and 3 in Northeast Harbor. We probably hit the

I’m very behind recapping the rest of the trip to AZ, so here’s the rest, in short order. That Monday, we headed down toward Tucson, and checked out Biosphere 2. It’s an incredibly interesting place to visit, and I have tons of pictures, but it really is one of those places that you’re better of

The morning of my birthday (the 22nd), we headed over to the Desert Botanical Garden, which we’re able to access for free, because we’re members of our local botanical garden. (Definite perk of that membership.) It’s the late part of their wildflower season in April, though it apparently wasn’t a great wildflower year, because they

The gardens at the Morikami Japanese Garden and Museum were definitely the highlight of my trip to Florida. It’s an absolutely gorgeously done garden, with a progression of well labelled styles. We didn’t explore the main museum building (other than their awesome gift shop), but the Yamato-san (the original museum building) has a great exhibit
