Fern, who we first met in Bookshops & Bonedust, has uprooted her life to open a new bookshop next to the Legends and Lattes coffee shop run by her friend Viv. She’s long been unhappy at home, and thought for sure this would solve those feelings. But it doesn’t.
While fortifying herself with some liquid courage to tell Viv, she ends up falling asleep in a wagon, and wakes up far out of town. Said wagon is owned by Astryx, the fabled immortal Elven Oathmaiden, who is currently escorting a Goblin named Zyll back to Amberlin to collect the crazy bounty on her. She can’t turn back. So Fern travels on with the two, into unexpected adventure.
It’s amusing how cozy this book still is, considering it’s the adventures of a bounty hunter, but this is book three, and the author has nailed that cozy atmosphere. Everyone grows on this journey, and it’s just a lovely story.
