I’m starting my dahlias inside this year. It’s just been so cold I don’t trust having them in the greenhouse yet. I’ll just have to be very careful getting them out of these pots this time, so I don’t repeat my mistakes from the last time I did this.
These are six of the seven tubers I over wintered. The Penhill Dark Monarch started to shrivel very early in the winter. It never looked very good. So I tossed that one when I checked them all in April.
Of the six remaining, three had sprouts, which is only one less than last year, so I’ll take that as a good sign. I had to keep bringing these in and out of the garage so much that I really wasn’t sure how they were going to do.
I do have five more tubers coming, so I may be looking at a bit of a dahlia glut. I’ll just have to deal with it!
