Marked in Flesh – Anne Bishop

This book brings the conflict between the Humans First and Last movement and the Others to a head. And it’s not pretty. The Elders of the Others have finally taken notice, and having the Elemental forces of the earth decide they’ve seen enough is very bad.

I really love these books more than I feel like I should – you don’t get many stories where humans are very definitely lower on the food chain that still have so much hope to them. The good people in these books (both human and Others) are so good, in their own varied ways, and it’s so easy to root for them all to find their way through to the other side of this calamity.

There is one more book in this series (although there is a side series of three more books set within the world), so I’ll be interested to see where the author leaves this main group, after so much has happened.
